Bald Eagle webcam

This site is amazing. Two eggs in the nest under the eagle, one seems to have already started hatching. Both eagles were in the nest earlier and both eggs were visible.

The site is slow due to limited bandwith.

We have been watching them closely
Apr 29, 2006 1:48AM PDT

for some time now, thanks to Jack's post awhile back.

There has been increased activity in the nest recently. One of the eggs was expected to hatch around the 26th, and the other a couple days later. But, as with humans, the "expected" date of delivery is oftentimes off the mark. Wink There appears to now be "peck marks" on both of the eggs, so we are hoping to see some young'uns in the nest very soon.

We have nicknamed the parent birds Heathcliff & Gertrude (in honor of Red Skelton's old comedy routine about two seagulls.) Gertrude is slightly smaller than Heathcliff, but to tell the truth, I have only seen them together in the nest twice, and I couldn't tell them apart.

We are having a great time watching them. It truly makes me smile. Grin

Aside: Eagle Watch forum

(Hope this is OK to post about the forum regarding the nesting Bald Eagles. If it's not ok, please delete this)

There is a forum open for discussion at the infotec website linked to above regarding the Eagles, if anyone is interested. I have read some of the threads there. It is wonderful to know how many people have gathered together (so to speak) to witness this bit of "nature."

http://forum.infotecbsi.com/

It is also interesting to note that even in a forum for something as "special" and "specific" as the Eagles may be, that there is still a problem with "trolls." Happy

As with the webcam viewing, the forum there is occasionally experiencing huge overloads. At times it may take "forever" to open, or maybe not at all.

.... for sharing.

Very nice to see our national emblem "up close and personal".

They almost disappeared from my state, but thankfully, through the efforts of dedicated people, they are now back.

There's been quite a bit of chatter on the news here about
Apr 29, 2006 7:38AM PDT

this program which has reintroduced Bald Eagles to the urban environment of Vancouver, British Columbia. Apparently they now have 150 nesting pairs!!! in urban settings in and around Vancouver, and the urban eagles lay twice as many eggs and raise twice as many young as wild living eagles (more to scavenge? it has to be food related). The program has been a roaring success and everybody is happy. Hope they're able to do this all down the West Coast of the US as well, not least because they're such an awe inspiring sight. The website has been hiring new people and trying to increase its bandwidth, but demand is way out ahead of supply right now.

Thanks Mel

Good one..sent link to the wife

She does web projects with kids at the school where she teachs computer stuff. The current project is watching the progress of a couple of perigrine falcon nesting pairs in Ohio...one in Cleveland and the other in Columbus. These birds will nest on taller city buildings. Apparantly the males and females may separate after the young have flown but return annually to the same site next spring to raise a new brood.

Wildlife abounds fromt the woods
Apr 29, 2006 1:16PM PDT

The eagle is seen now and then maybe once or twice. I think its 4yrs. old now. There are red tails hawks too every now and then as well, but even more rare since the eagle has matured. My cat was scared and became an instant "fluffy" when it flew over my small road I made within the woods. I now see alot more bluzzards as they've returned back to Ohio in my area. With all these birds as big as they are, they get your attention. I think I get more problems with racoons, practically knocking on the door for a handout, and no, I don't feed any wildlife intently. adios -----Willy
