Bad user profile

Jan 2, 2008 4:25PM PST

Something happened to my user profile "Rob". I have moved my files to the "Public" folder, and deleted the account/user profile. There is still a file NTUSER.DAT in the /User/Rob folder that prevents it from being deleted completely.

If I add a new user "Rob", Vista creates a new folder named /User/Rob.austin-pc (austin-pc is the name of the computer) and tells me my user profile is bad. It makes a temporary area called /User/Temp, but warns me all my setting will be lost on exit.

I could just use a new user name for myself, but I want/need it to be "Rob" with the same password on my other computer for full file sharing. (though I haven't figured Vista out too well, though I have XP & Linux working great together).

Nevertheless, what can be done to remove or reuse the remains of the "Rob" user account?

Thanks,

Rob

Try this...

Log into another administrative account in Safe Mode (press F8 during boot) and try using uUnlocker and/or mMoveOnBoot to delete the troublesome file(s).

Hope this helps,
John

Thank you John Wilkinson, that worked. No adverse affects, either!
