Bad Timing!

Dec 17, 2010 4:49AM PST

A couple of times I seem to have run afoul of your time clock! I carefully typed out a kinda long (for me at least) reply to a post, and as I was typing the last few sentences, sceeen did a little quiver, then I was on some other page! By the time I found my way back to where I was, everything typed was MIA. Since then I've been keeping my answers/posts short & concise...but wondering if there is way around the timer. I'm a deadly slow typist (ADD & Dyslexia) so don't tell me to just type faster!Plus I'd like to spell check prior to posting since I can't edit posts here....

Many will craft content in notepad or for me a simple control A and control C will save what I have in the clipboard.

I too have been hit when I accidently was not in the text box and tapped the return or the backspace key and poof.

Well...

actually I was typing in the text box. I don't know the "control A and C" thing...can you detail it? Try to keep it simple...as my devoted critic at this forum loves to mention, I am a newbie!

Control a and c

Are some rather old keyboard commands. Let's see when they showed up.

I know that these key combinations worked back in 1983 in Windows 1.0 and continued forward to this day.

There are many more but learning a few can save you a lot of time.

Control+A = select all
Control+C = copy selected to clipboard

Sounds interesting...

So exactly how (and when) do I use this to stop what happened before? Also, are the 'A' and 'C' caps...if so, do I use caps lock? I've no idea what "notepad" is,but I do have a flashdrive thingie I'm foolin' with (no real idea how to use it).

The good news is

You can try this out with control+a and control+c and such to discover on your own how it all works. Since this has been around for over 2 decades I bet your friends can spare time to teach some computer Windows basics.

Time clock?

I think you've just been unfortunate. The forums don't operate any time limit on typing posts and/or replies, and you should be able to take as long as you like.

In fact, I've just completed a long post myself HERE, and it took me an age.

You mentioned a screen quiver. That doesn't look good, but it is not anything that these forums have featured.

May I ask, what are you using a laptop or PC,(Desktop)? I have both and my laptop has a tracking pad instead of a mouse. I am forever brushing my wrists and fingers across the pad and finding the system doing odd things. I have deleted whole paragraphs before now, refreshed the browser, and somehow clicked the Back button, without ever knowing how I did it. I have now disabled the tracking pad in favor of a USB mouse.

I am also a slow typer, single finger typing! Happy

Sounds to me . . .

like your browser did a refresh. Then again, certain keys will cause a back or refresh. Have you mis-keyed?

Or maybe you're just a lot more lucky...

This ain't the only forum this has happened at. Anyway, was using public computer at one of the libraries first time. Second time it was paid computer at copy shop (that was the worst, as it wasted not only time but money!). Both are full size towers. Both use mouse. And no, I'm not good enough to type with one hand and use mouse with the other. I was using the usual two finger hunt and peck when it happened. Guess I'm slightly better than you are at this, as I can manage one finger on EACH hand. Oh joy, I'm twice as fast!

Not that I know of...

just doin' my usual two-finger typing. Only my two fingers are in contact with the keyboard at any time. Was nearing the last two sentences, when slight quiver, then screen went somewhere else. This has happened on couple other forums, til I whined and moaned to their mods, then it stopped. Now just here. Makes me think of them dang double clocks the chess players use.I don't think its browser based unless both Firefox & IE does it.
