Question

Bad network connection

Apr 18, 2018 11:17AM PDT

Hey there, recently I have noticed that the internet connection in my computer is getting to 1 or 2 MB/s some days and it gets to 10 maximum, although its constantly 20 to 30 MB/s for the others in my house.
They are using wireless connection for their laptops, however, I'm using a Lan cable, which is not directly connected to the router, but its connected through electricity (the router is connected to a cube(Edimax HP-5103) and my pc too) because the router is far away from my pc.
This problem is either because of the cubes o,r as I think, because of my computer.
In my task manager, network is at 0-2 % even if I'm using and there are some service hosts running in it.
Thank you for reading this and I appreciate it if you could help.

No OS mentioned so here's a setting I turn off. (ALWAYS!)

Read a setting I turn off at https://www.howtogeek.com/224981/how-to-stop-windows-10-from-uploading-updates-to-other-pcs-over-the-internet/

To fix this however you have to get everyone to turn it off and reclaim your network traffic.

-> The "connected through electricity" clue is interesting. Just recently another member battled this and after a lot of trials we found that swapping the two powerline modules the speed returned.

After this I thought of something else that we can try. See if the powerline modules have firmware updates.

CPU and GPU

I have windows 8.1 i-5-4460 3.20GHz 8GB RAM Nvidia GTX 750 GPU.
Swapping the powerlines made it worse, however, it now has gone up to 10MB/s, although it was 2 before.
Everyday, it sometimes goes up and sometimes down (as I mentioned it goes to 10 max despite the fact that the router gives 30MB/s).

Powerline issues. This could be the powerline is not on the same side (I find powerline network users already know about this.) Or an issue with the powerline devices. As a test we put the two devices on the same plug and test in that condition to give up a clue if it's the devices or the mains wiring.

PS. Any chance of the model numbers for the links?

That way I can check into link speeds and firmware updates.

But first did you do the single outlet test? I always do that along with a direct connection to the router to see where the lag/issue is. If you don't do this, then you are only hurting yourself as I have no magic means to guess or tell where the issue is. I do share how I test in the field so you can do the same tests.

OK, the manual shows how to factory reset and then I'd re-test using the single mains (outlet) as well as the no-powerline speed test.

Those tests should tell us where the issue is.

Found out something!

I have tried to connect a WIFI extender to the powerline next to my computer, when I tried to check the connection speed using my phone, it was over 30, however, when I plugged it back to my computer the speed was 2-3.
That means that the problem is from my pc and not the powerlines or router.
Also, I visited a website called Flowmon to check the network traffic, however, I'm not familiar with it so I don't know what should I check.

Since it was with the phone and not your PC

All that did was muddy the water.

The real test is one without the powerline and I don't see or missed where you tried that.
