Bad LED Display (red/blue failed) - Extended warranty?

by daperrenod / March 20, 2011 5:02 PM PDT

I own a Samsung DLP HDTV model HL-T5087SA - it was manufactured 1/2008 and the 'Samsung's advertised 20,000 hours of life' LED display failed after about only 500 hours use. Picture is entirely light-green in color. This happened slightly more than 12 months after purchased new. Samsung says... 'out of warranty!' I need help. Thank you.

daperrenod,

Was this product purchased and used in the United States?

If so, try registering the unit and extending the warranty by an additional three months. Look for the green start at this link:

http://www.samsung.com/us/support/

If this is outside the United States, you'll need to contact the Samsung customer service center and your region for further assistance.

Yes, my HL-T5087SA was purchased (1/31/2009) and used in the United States. It is registered with Samsung - but Samsung's online customer support website says warranty expired om 1/31/2010. It did not give me 'an additional three months'.

I have a 'Service Transaction Number' - It is: 4008041706.

Thank you for responding.

CORRECTION OF MY PREVIOUSLY POSTED PURCHASE DATE:

Yes, my HL-T5087SA was purchased on 12/31/2009 (and NOT the 1/31/2009 I originally posted) and used in the United States. It is registered with Samsung - but Samsung's online customer support website says warranty expired om 12/31/2010. It did not give me 'an additional three months'.

I have a 'Service Transaction Number' - It is: 4008041706.

daperrenod,

I have sent this up as of this morning for a service manager to review. Since it is out of warranty (Being March 2011), I can't suggest if this will be covered or not. But I'll be happy to ask if a manager can review the situation to see if something can be done.

Thank you. I am now talking to Samsung's 'Executive Customer Relations' - They said they will "extend my warranty until April 21, 2011. Again, thank you

The Samsung RF23M8090SG

One of the best French door fridges we've tested

A good-looking fridge with useful features like an auto-filling water pitcher and a temperature-adjustable "FlexZone" drawer. It was a near-flawless performer in our cooling tests.
