Bad Image Warning

Dec 22, 2010 1:40PM PST

I have had AVG 426/3327 10.0.1170 INSTALLED ON MY COMPUTER RUNNING Windows VISTA and I started getting this message for every file I try to open, I can't get rid of it [(name of file)-Bad Image
C:\Windows\system32\AVGRSSTX.DLL is either not designed to run on windows or it contains an error. Try installing the program again using the original installation media or contact your system admin or the software vendor for support.] I deleted AVG free totally off my computer and am still getting these Bad Image pop ups, I thought if I deleted it and went and re downloaded a new version of AVG that it may stop the problem, what should I do? I tried all the things that was on the AVG forum before I deleted it and nothing worked, and deleting it hasn't worked either I need help. Thank you,

Hello warcreek,

please accept our apologies for this inconvenience caused by AVG product. We are still investigating, why is the "avgrsstx.dll" record in incorrect registry key in some unique situations.

Please follow these steps:
- download Microsoft Tool Autoruns from this website
- extract the downloaded archive and run the binary (or just run the binary, depends on type of download)
- on the first page find section HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Windows\Appinit_Dlls or choose tab AppInit
- clear the tick by avgrsstx or remove it completely
- just for sure check also tab Winlogon for the same record and remove it as well

What is the current situation?

Thank you

Hello Ondrej,
I have the same AVG as Warcreek, same operating system, and same error. I followed your directions above, and this seems to have resolved the problem. FYI, Winlogon tab did not have the same record. Looks like by downloading MS Tools Autoruns and clearing the avgrsstx check mark I am no longer getting pop ups.
Thank you!

this worked

this fix worked for me too, I was removing AVG with avg removal tool but the program crashed. I kept getting that bad image avgrsstx error until I ran Autoruns and removed the check for it in the Appinit_dlls section

I have downloaded the Microsoft Autoruns and there's no avgrsstx in Winlogon or in AppInit.
What else can I try?

Hello nangos73,

Can you please provide us with exact wording of the error message and Autoruns export. The export upload in an archive (zip file) to favorite online storage and provide us with link to it, so we can analyze the situation.

Thank you
