Backward compatible HDDs?

Jun 26, 2006 6:57AM PDT

Excuse double posting but I ran this question on the notebook forum for a couple of days with no response. My question is If I have an ATA 6 HDD (80 wire) in an external USB drive box Will it run if it connects to an older laptop (Satellite 5005)The controller of which drives an older (40 wire) Hdd? Thanks for any response Stewart

Don't worry about the drive type if USB...

As long as the laptop has a USB port and you've got the
driver if the OS isn't Win2K or WinXP should work fine.

Let us know.

I just read your original response again and realise that what you were saying was that A driver would not be needed If I had 2000 or XP.
I had misinterpreted you as saying it would be OK unless I had 2000 or XP. I should receive the drive in a couple of days and will let you know how it goes. Thanks for your help Regards Stewart
