Backup up my Mac to my Pc????HOW? Help!!!

I'm a photographer and My mac os x version 10.4.10 laptop was dropped on the ground(thanks Seattle Airprot), and now i need to backup. I have a PC as well as an Arcdisk 40 GB external hard drive. i wanted to put everything on to the hard drive and then onto the PC but when I tried to drag n drop files it says 'it can not be moved because the harddrive cannot be modified'???? I'm stumped. The harddrive has only been used by PC users so far? Anyone have a clue what to do?

Mac only reads from that. Given that I picked up a nice 500GB drive from fry's for 109 bucks, aren't your files worth that much to get your own drive or better yet put them on DVD?
