Backup .pst file won't import into MS Outlook 2007

Apr 29, 2009 2:39AM PDT

I?ve just re-installed Windows Vista (Home Premium). Now trying to import a .pst file with all my emails and contacts into Microsoft Outlook 2007. I did this successfully on the previous install. Difference this time is, the only recent copy I have of the .pst file is zipped - backed-up by the Windows Vista ?Backup and Restore Center?. I?ve unzipped it OK from within Windows Explorer which now shows a .pst file, but still the import fails. MS Outlook says ?it is not a personal folders file?.

I tried to restore the file using the ?Backup and Restore Center? but it says ?Backup location is not available? (despite having displayed the exact date and time of each of the backups). I tried to open the .pst file in MS Excel but no luck there.

It seems to be a Windows Vista backup/restore issue rather than an MS Office one.

Is there a way around this? I obviously do not want to lose all my contacts!

Any help greatly appreciated.

Hope this helps.

I ran into that and the cause was the file was marked read-only.

Sorry but my lesson was not to use the Wizard for things I can't lose. I simply copy such to my USB sticks now.

Still an Active Problem!

Thanks for the suggestion Bob, but unfortunately that's not it. File Properties shows read and write access and for Administrator sign-in (which I am) full control.

Any other solutions out there?
