BACKUP OUTLOOK EXPRESS to EXTERNAL HARDDRIVE

How can I make a copy onto an external hard drive of emails that live in Outlook Express on my local hard drive. I want the copies to be READABLE DIRECTLY from the external drive without having to re-import them into Outlook Express.

I have a few computers on which I want to have this capability. Some run WINDOWS XP and some run WINDOWS VISTA.

For each message, use File>Save as. Choose eml or html format.

Vista doesn't come with Outlook Express, but has Windows Mail. So I don't know of this procedure (which I tested with OE) will work there.
