Backlight problem

by jedikevin20 / January 15, 2009 12:45 AM PST

I have a hp pavilion zv5000 laptop. Lately, my screen backlight cuts out when my screen is at 90 degree angle from the keyboard. I can still see images on screen but they are very dark so i know its the backlight. This strikes me as odd as if it was the inverter or lamp, it would keep going out. For now I've been using a laptop mount and keeping my monitor around 120-130 degrees and it has worked without fail for weeks. I'm thinking there is a short somewhere in the joint area between the laptop bottom and the lcd monitor. I was thinking of taking the monitor apart and see but wanted some input before dismantling.

Gonna attempt to fix it. its a old 6 year old lappy. Not to worried about anything on it. If all else fails I'll just hook a old crt to it when needed. I'm leaning to some wiring problem. If the backlight ever cuts off, I just close the lid and reopen it and it works again.

Just sharing one of my favorite items for bare wire issues.

The Samsung RF23M8090SG

One of the best French door fridges we've tested

A good-looking fridge with useful features like an auto-filling water pitcher and a temperature-adjustable "FlexZone" drawer. It was a near-flawless performer in our cooling tests.
