Backlight failure on new LN52A850?

Mar 9, 2009 3:17PM PDT

I have a new 52" Samsung 850. While watching a blu-ray disk the screen went black. Since the cables all seemed fine, I unplugged the TV from power and waited a minute. Then I pressed the "Content" button to switch the TV to its internal content. If you look at the screen just right, you can just barely see the large print "Art" "Relaxation" etc. menu. Using the remote to query "source" also shows an almost imperceptible menu (think 99.99 black against 100.00 black), but the screen is totally black.

I assume it's not possible to accidentally select a value of "0" for backlighting.

I'm guessing this is a backlight failure. Any suggestions?

In rereading my note, I neglected to mention that I plugged it back in. Obviously. The TV made its "on" sound from its own speakers.

technovelgist,

I figured you had plugged it back in - I gotcha. Happy I apologize for the delay in response.

Okay, back to serious business now... [ahem]

It sounds like either your inverter or your lamp housing was either damaged or disconnected. I would definiely recommend getting the unit serviced, as it's likely an internal issue. There's not a whole lot of resetting that can be done, and if it's in it's current state, I'm not sure I'd want to troubleshoot it too much, so that the technician can see what you're seeing and fix the source of the problem. The support number is 800-SAMSUNG for that issue.

Hope that helps, and keep me posted.
