Backing up wrong drive?

Mar 24, 2007 7:31AM PDT

I just recently bought a 250GB Western Digital My Book Essential 250GB External USB 2.0 Hard Drive, Model#WDG1U2500N. I bought this one because my current Drive is about 5 years old and starting to fail.
However, I have had a few problems with it.
I have been working on computers for about 10 years now, so I'm pretty competent at them.
However, when backing up a computer I experienced a problem. I used the 'google one click backup' to backup the C drive. HOWEVER, instead of backing up the main drive (of which it seemed to have copied and then deleted them into the recycle bin), it made a mirror image of the other backup drive that was attached to the computer! Also, this presented a problem, as I was on a client's computer. The software backed up a copy of 100GB worth of her songs (she's a DJ) and they thought I was trying to pirate it! I was able to give them 'some' reassurance that this was not my intent, but they are stuck on the question: "With all of your computer knowledge, how could you let this happen?" I honestly cannot come up with an answer. I told them that I will research it and see if anyone else has had a similar problem.
When I got home, I attached the drive to my computer and the same thing happened. I told it to backup my documents on the D drive, yet it made a mirror image of my other USB drive that was connected and the files that were supposed to be backed up were copied then put into the recycle bin. When I disconnected the drive and tried again, it still didn't copy my D drive, but the E drive. Short of doing a 'copy' and 'paste', I cannot get the files moved over! I cannot get the auto-backup software working correctly. Any ideas?

YES! There is a glitch in the software! This has pissed me off since I got the drive in January! I spent about 2 hours on the phone with technical support to have them conclude that it is a windows problem not theirs! But, it does the same thing on my Mac when I plug it in there too! WD's only suggestion to me was to do it the old fashion way as you said, copy and paste. I think that's kinda ****! If they have the damn program out there, it should be working right! Sorry to hear about our client, hope s/he understands.

I have been looking for some kind of official release of this info. Do you know who you talked to at tech support? Do you know somewhere on their website that this 'glitch' is posted?

HA! They won't actually admit that there's a problem in writing! Wish I could remember the chick's name I talked to at WD but all i remember was it wasn't english sounding.... good luck finding it.... All I can say is try to call WD and see if they can give it to you in writing... GOOD FREAKING LUCK! They are all about CYFA there!

I have also had this problem..... Not quite in the same predicament you're in... But I ended up returning the drive because it kept failing and I couldn't get the auto-backup to work properly with more than one drive in my computer.
Just a side question, if you've been working on computers for 10 years, wouldn't you know how to hide the files so that your client wouldn't even have known you copied them? If he or she has been your client for a while, they know your abilities, right?
