Question

Backing up my profile before clean install

Jun 6, 2011 2:03AM PDT

I've got a problem w/my system that I think only a clean install will fix. Unfortunately, I find it impossible to reuse my old profile directory when I do that. It will insist on creating C:\Documents and Settings\EggieOGeggie.000 or something and using that. How can I keep my old profile but trash the installation?
I'm running WinXPHESP3

But if we read how to deal with a corrupt profile you can read what is supported.

What about e-mail and anything else?
Jun 6, 2011 1:50PM PDT

Ok, that's a little clearer. I see that Outlook Express e-mail is an exception. I don't use Outlook but Thunderbird. Is there anything I should know about T-bird user data and that of anything else for that matter?

T-bird backup is well discussed.

I can't write better than what you see on the web today. However if the machine still works I have had great luck and fun by backing up the entire image with CLONEZILLA so I have a second chance if I forget something.
