The /C switch of XCOPY may be useful here.
Research XCOPY and the many discussions about cooling or heating a failing drive to get the files out.
I have no problems copying files onto the damaged HDD or accessing them (they are all fine and undamaged), but it won't let me copy them to another HDD. When I try to do so it would copy a few MB, stall and after a while a message pops up, saying that it can't read the file?? No matter how many times I click on "Try Again". The only alternative is to reset the drive, but I need to back up the whole HDD before it dies (500GB) ASAP and when a single file is bigger than a couple MB it won't let me copy.
Basically what I need is a way to force the HDD to copy the files, no matter what. How can I do that? I'm using Vista.
