backing up Entourage 2004

Aug 18, 2009 2:45AM PDT

Hi,

I have a network of about 40-50 Macs running Tiger or Leopard and they are all using Entourage 2004 configured for Exchange.
This means that their mailbox email is backed up on the Exchange Server.
However, in Entourage users can archive email out of their mailbox into an area within Entourage called 'Folders On My Computer'. Once the emails go in there its removed from their mailbox. My concern is that this area of Entourage is on the local hard drive and we don't backup local hard drives. We tell all users that their documents must be on the network fileserver to get backed up nightly.
Does anybody else here look after networked Macs running Entourage with Exchange and have a backup plan for the local Entourage database ?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

Same problem with Outlook

but we get around it by making a share available to the users onto which they archive (pst)their mail. That way it still gets backed up when the server on which the share resides is backed up.

Education is the key, you will be surprised how fast they learn after their first email loss.

not the same problem as Outlook

It is easier for Outlook users to archive mail into server based PSTs as Outlook lets you specify the location for the PST.
Entourage does not let you do this.

However, after a bit of research it seems that I may be able to work round this problem by using Automator to run a script when Entourage quits to copy the Microsoft User Data folder from the local hard drive to a network share.

I no longer use Entourage, haven't for years, but assumed that as MS tout it as the Mac Outlook that it would be similar.

Shoulda known better Happy

That script should help you
