background in publisher

by chetbaker22 / July 20, 2009 11:36 PM PDT

I'm having trouble with some of my background images for a website I;m designing with 2007 publisher. When working on the document, the background looks like the way I want it to in that the images are the correct size and the background tiles the right way. Also true in web page preview. However, once site is uploaded and looked at online, the background images are huge! This is happening for a few pages I made and used background images from a particular set of clip art, whereas other backgrounds I used are working fine.
Additionally, the pages themselves don't take up the whole screen. When working on document, even though I have selected 984 pixels in width, the page shows up short of that. Therefore, things that appeared centered on working copy are off center in actual site.

Seems proper.

Publisher is not a great web editor. You end up with that issue so one workaround is to resize the image file directly with IRFANVIEW and not count on Publisher to do that work for you. This is not an offer to teach IRFANVIEW use.

Your reply got me to think outside of the "publisher box" for a solution. I used a paint program I had to resize the background. (When I had compared the background that worked properly vs. the ones that didn't, size seemed to be the only difference.) When I inserted the resized backgrounds into publisher, they were too small, but on web page preview they were bigger. So I just played around with size and kept in mind that the publisher document itself doesn't show the accurate size for the background images. No idea why they don't look right in publisher, but at least I have a good fix. Hope someone else can use this info. Thanks again for your idea - it definitely got me started in the right direction.

Help, my PC with Windows 10 won't shut down properly

Since upgrading to Windows 10 my computer won't shut down properly. I use the menu button shutdown and the screen goes blank, but the system does not fully shut down. The only way to get it to shut down is to hold the physical power button down till it shuts down. Any suggestions?
