Question

backblaze backup service Back-tracked during upload??

Sep 1, 2017 8:32AM PDT

It was litterly like 15 video files away from being done backing up (uploading) Everything to the cloud,, and then my stupid laptop turned off! (my laptop has a issue,, it turns off without warning if its at low power, it also runs out of power within minutes) Then when i turned it back on, IT practically started the whole darned upload over again!, Its not supposed to do that! I even checked, a file that i happened to see in the "Now uploading part 14 of IMG_0112" section that it uploaded a specific file, then i went to check the cloud after the power failure and it wasn't there!, It deleted it or something so that i can waste more time! Not really looking for a solution as much as a explanation, because i am kind of annoyed right now!

"Why?"

As you can bet, only BackBlaze can answer what their software is supposed to do.

As to the power issue, why not put a new battery in the laptop (prices have dropped) or keep it on mains power?

https://www.lifewire.com/backblaze-a-complete-tour-2617953 gives us a tour of the app controls. Of interest is the files to be backed up tab. If the computer crashes the log of what needs to be backed up may not be correct so it has no choice but to play it safe and start with it's last good list.

It's a divisive debate how backup like this should work, really does work and how it must work. That is, if backups must be reliable, you have to discard partials, incomplete uploads and more.

There are some that thing about how Torrents work, but this is not torrent based (in design.)

Anyhow, how it works would be a discussion between you and BB.
