Question

BACK UP's

Nov 6, 2011 5:09PM PST

Hi, i kinda need some advice and help on backing up some computers.
1stly, there are 6 of them, of which two are mac's.
2ndly, i need have to back up the hard rives of each of them onto an external. (bout 1TBish)

so, i need to know how it can be done? or whether it can be done. ( minus the use of another back up server)

Thanks=]

Answer
So you want to back up 6 computers

using one large hard drive? I'll suggest you think this idea over again. Consider that when that 1TB(ish) drive dies...and it's not if but when...you've lost your backup for all 6. I'll suggest you will need multiple media sources and a plan that uses a combination of automated and manual methods. I like full disk imaging as part of a backup plan as it offers the quickest means to restore an entire hard drive to working condition. As well, you're well off to test your plan to make sure it does as you wish. I don't see a quick and easy answer to your question that will provide a reliable solution.

but

Thats all good. I can get the extra hard disks, but the only issue is whether i can get the mac's and pc's to use the same HD(s). For example, would there be a method of partitioning the disks into two so that the mac's can use 1 and the pc's the other? or should i get different hd's for the different os's?

You'll have to check the backup software FIRST

For the PCs I have no issue with a single drive since I could use CLONEZILLA. But what app would you use on the Apple's?

Indeed backing it up to 1 device is not such a good idea.

Online storage

I looked at online storage as well.. drop box was my first option since v can all access it, but then the internet connection in my country is NOT the fastest and uploading that amount of data would take forever
