Babylon will not leave
Oct 2, 2012 12:14PM PDT

I was able to finally get rid off the babylon home page but now there's another problem. I keep getting an unknown file is trying to have me change my search engine to their search engine. I hate to even type this companies name in case they dive into something more on my computer. I have google seach as I default homepage and search, with the instructions to make it my only search engine. Babylon does not have anything I can delete. These guys are worse that a virus, if not worse. Hope I can get help.

Babylon
Feb 28, 2012 10:33PM PST

I did this, and got rid of it. It was gone for a few days, and now it's back. Did a search for all files with the name Babylon, and came back with about 18. Some could not be deleted because it couldn't find the source file. As I was deleting the others, after the search was completed, the list suddenly repopulated itself The really odd thing was that the date on some files was last year. Other files had the current date. Since I was sure I hadn't downloaded anything that day, my conclusion is that this is attaching itself thru somewebsite I visited. This is the most bizare thing I've ever encountered. I'm scared to do online banking or paypal from my computer for fear it's stealing my sign in's and passwords. HELP!!!!!!

First uninstall from your programs.

Then enter "Tools"; Internet Options and reset your home page. Then go to the "Tabs" (toward the bottom); click settings, in the middle you will see a drop down menu. Set for "your first home page". Click "ok"; then click APPLY, do not click okay or the settings will not take. You MUST click Apply then ok. This should fix the problem for Internet Explorer.

Babylon Search How to delete
Mar 13, 2012 6:04PM PDT

I just went to the babylon website and went on live chat and they deleted it for me. They do it for free.
But they do remote access they fixed it in about 5 minutes. It was on my Firefox explorer. I made sure they were not doing anything bad like going through my important information.
They were very helpful and now I feel 10X better.
I would recommend doing it.

For windows users,

1) go to internet options from "tools" in the tool bar.

2) look down to "Tabs" click on "settings"

3) scroll down and check the box that says, "open only the homepage when Inernet Explorer starts."

4) in the drop down box just blow put, "your first homepage".

I have don this on two computers so far. It works.

Babylon fix - Internet Explorer
Mar 17, 2012 8:28AM PDT

I followed the advice from tamainv on 3/7/12 4:32 AM, which I think is essentially the same as yours, except that like you I did not find, or use, any APPLY button. It seems to have worked so thanks to both parties.

Whether this has in fact completely removed all traces, or just covered them up, is open to question. It may be that only the Bablyon people themselves can do this, but I have my misgivings about entering into "live chat" - even less allowing remote access!!! - with the original source of all the problems. Unless many other forum users / experts confirm that they have done this without any ill effects. If Babylon provide instructions for DIY-removal which can be checked I might be prepared to consider this.

Babylon search remaining after removal of toolbar
Apr 8, 2012 10:29AM PDT

I did the registry key recommendations with some success. I un-installed the Babylon Toolbar from the add remove programs but Babylon search remained. .
Google.com is my homepage and default brower and IE 8 is my browser. I checked Manage add ons and it was not there. But each time I opened IE8 it opened with Babylon search (Internet option homepage was www.google.com). so I went into IE TABS settings and where it states "When a new tab is opened", I set it with" always open with my homepage". So far the dastardly Babylon search is gone and IE opens to the designated home page.

That was my experience also after using the IE 8 Tabs procedure - but without having to play about with registry settings (potentially dangerous!)

This is one frustrating scoundrel! But here is what I did. Be sure you are savvy with your computer. First go to Control Panel > Programs > look for Babylon Bar and uninstall ... better still if you use an uninstaller like Revo they will remove and also clean up any left over registry items. I found it oft time re-appeared ... the thing that cleared it up for me was to go to Internet Options > General > search settings and diable the Babylon and On the general tab > Tabs > When a new tab is opened i set it to open to "Your first home page" which for me is google.com. and I also did registry adjustments but you need to make sure you know how to do.
Here is what the experts give
go to start regedit and Find the key: and expand as given until you get to tabs then do a modify.
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\About URLs\Tabs
and modify the entry that points to babylon search, to the one you desire (be it google, bing, or whatever) or by the default ( res://ieframe.dll/tabswelcome.htm ) .Again make sure you know how. Believe it or not i just found it again in the registry tabs part but since setting IE options to open to "your first home page", it is not active.
Revo installer Pro has a 30 day free download with Cnet and it is awesome for getting rid of "hangon" stuff in your cracks and crevices of your 'puter when you uninstall programs.
Best to you.

Was it really cnet?
Jun 3, 2012 5:49AM PDT

Hi, so I just wanted to say sorry and I feel your pain whether or not it was cnet that caused babylon to download or whatever. So I'm posting this for ANYONE WHO CANNOT GET RID OF F***ING BABYLON SEARCH, you've probably gotten tired of reading this but here are the steps that I took:
1 - Go to the bottom start tab, to your control panel on the right, double click on add or remove programs, find babylon and get rid of the motherf***er!
2 - Then open IE, go to the tools tab above, click on manage add-ons, then click on toolbars and extensions as well as search providers and disable/remove the b*****d!!
3 - Finally (this is what restored my sanity and my original google homepage tab), stay in tools and click on internet options, then on the settings under the heading tabs, then where it says, "when a new tab is opened, open:", change "The new tab page" to "Your first home page" or "A blank page" (whichever you prefer).
This probably won't help everybody but it helped me and I can now cool down LOL. Have a great day!!!

I contacted Babylon directly...
Jun 2, 2012 10:09AM PDT

Below is what I cut n paste from my question to Babylon on how to remove their search from opening up in my tabs.

After #3, it gives directions on what to do if you have tried 1-3 and it still opens a tab with Babylon Search. This worked for me FINALLY!! Somebody below suggested messing with registry but the warning of how dangerous that suggestion was, caused me not to try it!! But I'm just happy to be rid of that pesky search page! Hope this helps others that were in the same boat as me.

Have a great day!
