Best not to BURY your requests in old posts.

In the registry you also may need to alter the permissions of the key or the key's folder.

As this is a buried request, I'll stop here.

I was able to get read of Babylon toolbar, but every time open second or another tab in IE 8 or Chrome the Babylon Search is used instead of blank or my home. And I cannot uninstall from Control Panel because neither "Babylon" or "Mybabylon" are listed in "Add or Remove Program.

getting babylon off your tabs
Sep 8, 2012 10:47AM PDT

try this - open tools, click internet options, general tab, then click the settings box for tabs (near th bottom). There is a setting in the middle that allows you to set the tab to open to a blank page or to your home page. That will clear Babylon off butif you allow the internet to make the decision it will reappear. The blank page that used to appear on my tabs now truly looks blank and does not offer inprivate browsing as it did before - no idea how to get that back.

Babylon Search
Dec 19, 2010 4:58AM PST

Pablo

After I used the "Add/Remove" in Contorl Panel I found that Babylon had attached itself to my "Windows Live" and my Internet Explorer. What I found also it was attached to my "Internet Options". Double click on the "Internet Options" and you will see "Internet Properties general tab and in the "Home Page" window you will see the Babylon web address. Delete it but not the other addresses in the window and it should not come back. I hope this helps!

Babylon Malware
Jan 19, 2011 11:27AM PST

So basically, it's mal-ware virus... that's copying itself into hidden folders?

I've done everything above...everything!.. and when I search google chrome my results are STILL shown in 'search.babylon.com' page. I've done the 'extentions' deletion, uninstalled from add/remove programs, gone to Program Files in C: and manually uninstalled both 'myBabylon' and 'Babylon', emptied recycle bin religiously after every deleted the files, changed the "Internet Options" for my homepage (which worked for that specific area), etc etc etc. Still, when I search google chrome my results are always shown in 'search.babylon.com' page! Grrrrrr!!!!

Whats funny is that when I then search Babylon (I've got no choice remember) for keywords 'revouninstaller review'.... I get no results! Suspicious!

Anyways, Babylon Search can kiss my @ss. I hate malware.
>Sad

And I'll do a system reinstall to get rid of it if that's what it takes.
I'm not kidding! I'll do it!

The internet is getting to be a MAJOR sinkhole of time and effort in my life.
So many completely wasted hours trying to get more and more buggy software to wirk right ..for what? Thank God I don't work online. Can you imagine?

60% of my time online is dealing with s#!t like this. Whatever. I'm done with it and am headed out. Taking Wikipedia and TVTRopes offline and headin for the hills. I remember being so happy once...(sigh).

Babylon is as bad as a virus
Feb 1, 2011 10:36PM PST

I did everything I can find to uninstall and delete everything about it, but it's still there. Removal now does nothing, and delete is not permitted. (Yes, I log on as administrator; it makes no difference.)

I also have wasted much time trying to stop adds about it. It may or may not be a good product, but the more advertisement I see, the less likely I will ever buy it. At this point, I don't care how good it is, I will do anything I can to put them out of business forever!

Anyway, it seem to also change your default search engine. If in chrome go to settings>>options>> and not only do you make sure you set your homepage something other than Babylon, make sure to change your default search engine back to google. Also while on that page, be sure to REMOVE babylon!!!!

I took the steps already posted, and this last step I posted and seem to have gotten rid of the issue.

removing babylon search page that load con clicking new tab.
Nov 2, 2011 8:44AM PDT

I was having this problem with babylon searchm loading even after removing via add remove programs

"Babylon" had modified a registry value

the tab value in the folowing key

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\AboutURLs

if you use regedit and navigate to this key

rightclick on "Tab" value and select modify ( it will have a value that starts " http://search.babylon.com/")

DISCLAIMER: Modifying REGISTRY settings incorrectly can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from booting properly. Microsoft cannot guarantee that any problems resulting from the configuring of REGISTRY settings can be solved. Modifications of these settings are at your own risk.
1. Click Start
2. In 'Start Search' type regedit, press Enter (provide administrative credentials if prompted)
3. Navigate to the following key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\AboutURLs
4. Right-click Tabs, then click Modify...
5. Change the "Value data:" to: res://ieframe.dll/tabswelcome.htm
6. Click OK Now go back into Internet Explorer and make sure that under Tabs settings and under the category "When a new tab is opened, open:" you have it set for "The new tab page".

You can change this to the default value in ie 8 of "res://ieframe.dll/tabswelcome.htm" of if feeling adventureous http://some site you realy would like on opening a new blank tab

Removing Babylon search page
Apr 19, 2012 6:02AM PDT

Its easier than you think.

Depending on your operating system, you need to run regedit.
I am running Windows 7 so I use the run function under accessories and in the "open" box type regedit.

under computer select:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
SOFTWARE
Wow6432Node
Microsoft
Internet Explorer
AboutURLs

To the right side you will find a binary entry called "Tabs"
Double click on the tab and change the URL to where your tabs are going to such as "http://search.babylon.com/home"

Change that entry to anything you want or just delete it. I changed my to "http:\www.google.com"

Removing Babylon
Feb 23, 2012 7:57AM PST

My son is a Techie, and he understood and followed your instructions. Babylon is now gone. Thank you. However, I did not understand your instructions. I understand what he did, but could not begin to explain it to others. Would you break it down in layman's terms so others can get rid of this insidiously annoying, and probably malicious, program. You would be doing a huge service to a great number of people. Just look at how many people have posted looking for a solution. You have the ability to help them. I hope you will do so.

Apr 20, 2012 3:16PM PDT

your post has rid me (well on the surface anyway) of that horrid Babylon!!

I was hesitant to follow instructions that require regedit changes but this thing is so pervasive I would do almost anything to get rid of it.

Unfortunately it is still in my system. It is EVERYWHERE except where it should be.

I contacted Babylon themselves for help & they sent me a reply consisting of the usual thing of tools>internet options>tabs>etc, etc & doing an uninstall via add/remove software, blah, blah, blah. Or course it isn't in the software. It's too smart for that!

But a look in right click start>explore>application data or temp files or pretty much any other folder or file & it can be found there masquerading as whatever. I even found the notepad file when it was installed! It had piggy backed in on other software.

The note pad entries said in part after several lines reporting failure to install, a line said "access denied". Then a few lines down it says "silentinstall", next line "ExecuteBabylon", next line "NeedtoImport", & goes on to document the silent installation of it into lots of places.

I am so carefull what I download & install & always prefer to use CNet but still unwanted things get in.

At least it is gone from IE & hopefully it can't get up to too much mischief if it's wings are clipped & it's internet access removed!
