Babylon dictionary interface problem (Flag icon has gone)

Mar 12, 2015 6:38AM PDT

Hello everyone !

I have a problem with my application "Babylon dictionary".
the little flag icon beside the any dictionary name has disappeared and there is just a point instead of a flag distinguishing every dictionary.

Here is a screen shot :

Any idea what might be the problem ?

Blast from the past.

I've seen that when folk run registry cleaners or change fonts. Depending on the damage we set the font back or reinstall the OS.

Thanks a lot !

I did used a registry cleaner & changed fonts.
Could you tell me what fonts exaclty ? (OS fonts or babylon fonts).

I tried reinstalling babylon but no chance !
I have noticed these icons installed under my C:\Users\Username\AppData\Roaming\Babylon\Content\icons
But i can't do anything ! Sad

Any chance to find an easy solution instead of reinstalling the OS ?

Thanks.

Re: reinstall OS

Well, if you made a recent backup of the registry before cleaning it, and didn't change too much in it, you might be lucky when restoring that backup.
Or you could try system restore to before you ran that registry cleaner.
And if you can go back to a recent image of your whole system, it will certainly work again.

So both? Ouch.

At least system restore might undo that. But given it's cosmetic, maybe you can just use it until you are ready.

Lesson learned?

I think i will try to live with it until reinstalling OS.

I can't do system restore cause i don't have a restore point so...

thanks guys !

3rd ouch.

I'd research why there was no restore point. There are problems that are simple to fix with restore which otherwise can be so much trouble otherwise.

You didn't tell if you had Norton, Kapersky or other which interferes with SR.

SR & AV

Well, I use Malwarebytes Anti-Malware !

there is only one restore point but it woudn't help cause it dosen't involve backup for babylon... which is regrettable.

Maybe there is other solutions ?
I found those icons in C:\Users\Username\AppData\Roaming\Babylon\Content\icons

Is there a work around to use them ?

That's no moon. (or antivirus)

As to your other question, the screen you showed looked like the usual system font/registry cleaner effect and not the app's icon issue.

Downloadable dictionnary
Mar 12, 2015 5:37PM PDT

Good morning Bob !

My Babylon notifies me of downloadable dictionnary when i am connected to the Internet. but with the Flag icon on them.
And for the installed ones, they are still without Flags !
That's strange, right ?

What did the Internet Connection do to restore the Flags ?

If you bring you PC to Babylon and ask them to find out what's wrong (and pay for it), they might be able to tell you. the two most likely options:
1. The image of that icon comes from Internet
2. The program reads the image of that icon from your PC, but in a slightly other way than the 'normal' one which somehow got broken.

I agree with you Kees !

I think there is a broken link between the icons folder mentioned above and a key in the registry.

Whatever it is, i think i will have to live with it until the next reinstall of the OS !

Thanks a lot.
