Internet logins would not cause

this problem.
Internet logins, if you save them, are stored in the Keychain application and are accessed by Safari when needed.
As Safari is not running at this stage, it is unlikely that this is the problem.

<span id="INSERTION_MARKER">Forgot to mention: CD drive doesn't work, hardly ever did - same problem with ALL my Mac Minis

Use an external Optical drive

to fix this problem you will need to be booted from a disk other than the internal one
