Awesome! Trump and Carrier

Nov 29, 2016 8:05PM PST

Not even president yet and scroller on FOX said that Carrier has stated they've worked an agreement with Trump to keep over 1,000 jobs in Indiana.

He's already "Making America Great Again!"

Discussion is locked

"Trump is riding on Penses coat tails"......

"Carrier is a brand of United Technologies Corporation Building & Industrial Systems, based in Farmington, Connecticut." United Technologies has a number of FEDERAL contracts (controlled by Federal Government) that could have been threatened by Trump since other contractors could have replaced United.

Do you REALLY believe BO would have cared if Carrier left or do you think he would have had compassion for a thousand 'little people'? hilLIARy didn't care enough about them to even give them a mention during her campaign but Trump talked about this particular company during nearly every rally since the announcement was made.

Why wouldn't he?...they are Unionized...and according to you Obama loves the Unions and would do anything for them.

TheRUMP hates the Unions...and wouldn't give them the time of day.

BO and the union
Dec 1, 2016 8:15AM PST

at that company were doing NOTHING to stop the company from going....lots of negotiations could have been taking place by either entity and they weren't. It doesn't matter if Trump doesn't like unions....what DOES matter is that he cared about the workers themselves and did something about it.

As for BO's spokesperson, Ernst's statement yesterday dismissing this Trump 'win' and saying that when Trump can boast that he created 800K jobs like BO has done, then he can take credit for it. FACT: The USA was losing 800K jobs per MONTH for two years prior to BO's taking office. The fact that BO's team is now bragging that he created that same number TOTAL but it took 8 YEARS to do that, is NOTHING to brag about. THAT proves that the unemployment numbers they boast about is ridiculous and complete lies regarding where the economy REALLY is.

So you don';t think Obama is in love with unions?
Dec 1, 2016 10:40AM PST

All TheRUMP and Pence have done is transfer the taxes Carrier would have paid (IF they stayed) onto the employees that won't be laid off.

Give Carrier a tax break and the employees will pay the taxes that would have been lost IF they were laid off. The employees are making up for the lost taxes that the Gov is losing with the deal

Do the math....

Let's say a tax cut or $7M over 7 years.

$7,000,000(tax break)/1,000(employees) over 7 years = $1,000 in taxes /employee/yr.

You think they wouldn't pay $1,000/year in taxes?

- Collapse -
Yes, please, do the math, but
Dec 1, 2016 12:27PM PST

use REAL numbers and not just the 1000 employees of one company....that will be spread out over the millions of people who actually live and work in Indiana because it's a STATE tax incentive, JP. Not a ONE COMPANY tax incentive....and that works in every single State of the Union. Plus Carrier has promised to spend $16 MILLION of the company's money to expand in Indianapolis, which would be able to hire even more employees, including rehiring back some of those who are not included in the 1000 being kept on right now. Normally, with union agreements, those given pink slips will be the first to be given the option to come back.

It is so far...as more companies make the same threat...they'll all want the same deal/make the same threat..

Just reading an article on where America gets it's steel

According to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, 6 million American jobs depend on trade with Mexico, and about 40 percent of Mexico's exports are made from U.S. parts, components and other "inputs."

This model has allowed American firms to compete and thrive, sending their stock prices soaring while helping them fend off competition from European and Asian manufacturers that also outsource to assembly plants in China and other low-wage nations. Although these high-end manufacturing jobs in Mexico pay less than in the United States, they also act as a magnet keeping Mexicans from migrating to the United States. Migration rates for Mexicans are at their lowest levels in decades.

trying to force companies to leave Mexico wouldn't restore American factories to their former glory. Instead, the breakdown of NAFTA probably would bring a trade war.

Do you realize what the lag time is between deciding to built/restart a steel mill and having it in production?

TheRUMP should concentrate on his Beautiful WALL before he negotiates anymore "deals".

He's starting at the wrong end of his "plan" IF he actually has one.

When you have a 'cause and the will behind it', things happen quickly here,

You think the American population is as focused on trade as they were on WW2?

Were Americans willing to remove/stop purchasing ALL Carrier air conditioners in retaliation for Mexican production?

NO!!!! They don't want to sweat when it's too warm. That shows their determination to WIN a WAR.

WHERE is the "will behind" a trade war?

AND when 1/2 of the voting population voted against you ....things can take a bit longer, AND there was no twitterverse back then...so the POTUS wasn't pre-occupied.

When America was at war....it didn't start the war ....When America(it's new government) is in a Trade war....it will have started the war....

How would America re-act IF Germany had signed a truce after WW2, then had an election and changed the government and the NEW government of Germany started another war?

A deal is a deal? Our word is our bond?
- Collapse -
WHAT "trade war" are you talking about?
Dec 2, 2016 5:24AM PST

When NAFTA was brought into being there was ALWAYS, and STILL IS, a clause that states that it can be renegotiated at ANY time IF the balance tips too badly in one direction or another....THIS is the ONLY time that a candidate has actually been put into a position where it will finally happen. It's been talked about it before by other REPUBLICAN candidates since GWB left office, but since we had no Republican president to do that, it was left up to BO to do it, and he had no interest in that direction....and, in fact, has been pushing a new trade agreement, TPP, that will never go anywhere. hilLIARy brought up renegotiating NAFTA only AFTER Trump made it such a 'huge' issue, and she also reversed her position on TPP only AFTER Sanders made it such a 'huge' issue.

So, I ask again, WHAT trade war do you think is going to happen, when, and how if only negotiating so that it is actually FAIR to the USA becomes a reality?

As for "Were Americans willing to remove/stop purchasing ALL Carrier air conditioners in retaliation for Mexican production?

NO!!!! They don't want to sweat when it's too warm. That shows their determination to WIN a WAR."........yes, many WOULD boycott the product; however, Carrier isn't the ONLY A/C brand sold in the USA so nobody would be sweating, JP. Please, stop being so ridiculously left/liberal in your rants.

AND What did YOU "believe" about Obama?

I'll bet you believe everything you predicted has come true...The Death/End of America? Yet it's still here...... ticking along....

U.S. Unemployment Rate Drops 4.6 Percent, Lowest Level Since 2007

America kept hiring amid election shock.

The U.S. economy added 178,000 jobs in November, the Labor Department reported Friday, and the unemployment rate fell sharply to 4.6% from 4.9% in October.

It’s the lowest rate since August 2007.

Unemployment has been at or below 5% for nearly a year as more people have returned to the job market and hiring has maintained momentum.

November was the 74th consecutive month America added jobs

It's ALL Obamas fault?

This just in...TheRUMP claiming he won by a landslide.

HIS words...not slanted by ANY news organization.

Obama had over 50% of the vote when running...a tsunami? an avalanche? a tidal Wave?

I heard the figures were 48% to 46% for Trump...I don't consider 2% difference a "landslide"

How bout you?...Is 2% difference a "landslide"?

As for the unemployment rate, I already discussed this in another thread....it's fudged because it takes into account temporary holiday jobs in the SERVICE industry (restaurants, retailers, etc) that will disappear again right after Christmas....AND he LOST another 110,000 PERMANENT jobs in manufacturing.

Trump has said, even today, that he was watching another news channel (probably CNN) when he heard about Carrier leaving....during another show a few days later but after Trump had already mentioned Carrier in one of the debates, an employee was being interviewed and he said "the plant won't leave because Trump said he would save us". Trump didn't recall saying that, but looked back on the debate tapes and saw he had, but he believed that Carrier was already a done deal and was talking about saving other companies from leaving like Carrier was planning to do. When he found out that there was still time to stop it from happening, he and Pence started working on the deal. It worked....but there is no evidence that BO or anybody else in his entire administration, including the Commerce Dept., who even made an attempt.

A nice socialist idea indeed.
Dec 1, 2016 1:14PM PST

Replace a cheap foreign (Chinese, Mexican, whatever) worker by an more expensive American worker that moreover works less hours a day. Surely, whatever they make will become more expensive.

So while the poorer (now maybe jobless) part of the nation gets more jobs and more salary, the other (bigger) part of the nation has to pay more for the things they buy. That's transfer of money from rich to poor, although not via taxes, but via the free market. That's being socialist in a non-socialist world. Brilliant idea of DJT.

Wouldn't an iPhone become $100 more if made in the USA (for that $100 alone you have a not so very bad Chinese phone (although that might become more expensive also because of new higher import taxes)? Brilliant idea also: pay the investments in infrastructure from the money brought in by higher import taxes. Import taxes aren't as visible to the average voter as income tax or federal deficit, so he thinks he gets that nice new roads, airfields and hospitals all free from DJT.

Hidden advantages to Made in the USA
Dec 1, 2016 1:45PM PST

It would be true that companies moving abroad to find cheaper labor brings down the cost of them here. There are reasons these costs have become so high. Labor unions (and the effect they even have on non-union labor) are very much a part of that but not the entirety of it. Thus, it would be natural to think costs would rise for products if and when companies returned here. One benefit, however, is that being able to produce just about any and all things citizens of a country need reduces their dependence on other countries. Being dependent opens oneself to being exploited...or so I'd think.

Personally, I'd pay a little more for almost anything of better quality than some of the cheap stuff that comes from abroad. It's amazing how much difference there is in quality between equivalent items made longer ago versus those we find in our stores today. We crab about too much waste yet we make things that end up in the dump years before similar products landed there 20, 30, and 40 years ago. Our dumps once had too much smelly garbage that sent fumes across the landscape. Soon enough the most common product will be technology waste. It won't fume, however. I guess that's what we can call "eco-friendly" waste.
