AVR Keeps going to Prologic IIx

Apr 10, 2009 4:23AM PDT

Hi Peeps,

I just bought a HT-AS720S Samsung receiver/Speaker system and everytime I try to play an AVI file that I know is AC3 5.1, the receiver stays on Prologic IIx which is only supposed to be for 2 channel audio.

I had the same problem when trying regular DVD's and then realized the Audio settings on my DVD player were not set right and was on PCM

So now I have fixed the DVD problem and they are now playing on regular Dolby Digital Surround but the AVI file is still showing on the receiver as L.PCM Digital and Audio setting PL IIx.

Am I missing something else. This file is definately AC3 as that is what it shows when I right click it and properties and when playing on my DVD player and selecting DVD Audio it shows it as 3/2.1 Dolby Digital as well !

Any help would be appreciated,

Thanks,
Dash

PLII

PLII just stands for Dolby Pro Logic II. 3.2/1 is your speaker setup. Front/center rear/sub. If the recording is not DTS,it's going to play back in PLII or PCM mode.

No 3/2.1 is the audio in the file which is dolby digital (5.1). Remember this is my DVD player displaying this format not the receiver.

This is an avi file ripped with the original source kept which was AC3 5.1 DD

2.0 should play on the Dolby Prologic IIx because it's 2 channel and it gets extended. But the AVI file should be played by the normal DD.

DVD player model?

What's your DVD player model? Is it possible that the DVD player only supports 2-channel audio for AVI files? Or maybe there's a separate setting for the audio format for AVI files versus DVDs (you said you changed a setting and it starting working for DVDs).

Ok fore some reason it's all of a sudden started to work but I hadn't changed anyhthing since I started this post!!Weird !!

Anyways I am using an LG Model DVD Player

The settings I had when the DVD's weren't working was because in the DVD players settings aduio was on PCM and not digital so changing it ofcourse to digital fixed that problem

I just noticed that when I play that avi file now it stays on PLIIx for just a sec or 2 and now changes to Dolby Digital so all is good.

Thanks anyways Peeps,
