Avoid Adaware SE false positives by

making sure you are using Ad-Aware SE Build 1.02 and definitions file SE1R2 10.08.2004
The false positive was that Adaware SE 1.01 was mistaking "mozz.dll (a necessary dll for running Mozilla) for "Iwon". It drove me up a wall until I asked about it in the appropriate Lavasoft forum. The answer was that it was an issue they knew about and that using Se 1.02 plus the latest updates would resolve the problem...which it did.
The bottom line of course is to make sure that no obvious program such as a mail client or a browser is running when you run AdAware!

Please deselect "Search for negligible risk entries" as negligible risk entries (MRU's) are not considered to be a threat.

I imaine there are MANY here who are all asking the same question..."which options should I select or deselect..."

I hate going to a new forum (lavasoft, for example) with people I don't know. For the benefit of other like minded individuals, can we set up a thread that deals with the settings that an expert (such as Marianna or Donna) would suggest to a non-expert (such as me or any of the other lurkers around here who come to learn)

Thanks!

Larry,

I haven't play around with its settings. I ran a scan to test the scanner and I didn't have problem with it.

Their support posted the following recommended settings.

1. Set up the Configurations as follows:

General Button
Safety:
Check (Green) all three.

Advanced Button
Logfile Detail Level:
All options under this should be checked (Green).

Tweak Button
Check (Green) the following:
- Log Files
- Include basic Ad-Aware settings in logfile:
- Include additional Ad-Aware settings in logfile:

Please do not check (Green): Include Module list in logfile:

Click on "Proceed"

2) Click on "Scan Now"

3) Please deselect "Search for negligible risk entries", as negligible risk entries (MRU's) are not considered to be a threat.

4) Run the scanner using the Full Scan (Perform full system scan) mode.

A full scan is the in-depth scan mode that scans your whole computer for Spyware infections. When performing a full scan the following scan settings are used:

- Full Memory Scan is performed
- Registry Scan is performed
- Deep Registry scan is performed
- Cookie-Scan is performed
- Favorites are scanned
- Hosts file is scanned
- Conditional scans are performed
- Archive files are scanned
- All fixed drives are scanned
