Avid Xpress Pro on HP Pavilion d1000y

Nov 9, 2005 3:00PM PST

I have an HP Pavilion d1000y and I am looking into purchasing Avid Xpress Pro, but I want to know if it will operate on my system or not. My computer has the following specifications:

Microsoft(R) Windows(R) XP Home Edition with SP2
- Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 540J w/HT Technology, 3.2GHz
- 1024MB PC2 3200 (2DIMM)
- 250GB 7200 rpm SATA Hard Drive
- 256MB DDR ATI Radeon X600 Pro with TV-Out and DVI
- Integrated Intel(R) High Definition Audio

Does anyone know if Avid Xpress Pro will run on my system? Is my video card powerful enough? Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks.

Will not run. Here's why.

AVID requires XP PRO SP2 as the OS. Other than that, you should be OK.

You ask:
a. Does anyone know if Avid Xpress Pro will run on my system?

It won't. The reason was noted.

b. Is my video card powerful enough?

Overkill. Video editing does not require 3D game cards. At the office we have a few edit stations with simple 8 dollar video cards. It's a mystery to us why one would overpay for a video card if video editing is the need.

controls that are not present in lower cost boards. They may also do a better job of supporting multiple monitors which are very useful in video editing.

We use the Pantone.

But we're nuts. And some of us are Scottish.

monitor? If so, it's nice if the video driver knows about color profiles, and can be told to use the right one.

Sorry, the Pantone Spyder.

It's a nice tool and removes that issue.

You will also need a firewire card to capture video from a camera. John

So my video card won't be a problem?

I check on the Avid website and it only listed about 5 video cards for Avid Xpress Pro. I was aware that I need XP Pro SP2, but I just wanted to know that my video card would suffice. The Avid website listed Open GL graphics cards. All of the cards were NVidia. I just don't want to make the investment in Xpress Pro and find out I can't run it on my system. Thanks for your help.

They can't list all the cards.

Besides with each month you would have to collect what new cards came out and retest the old ones to see if drivers still worked.

The flatout answer is any current video card will do fine.
