AVI or MPEG?? audio doesnt sync w/ video when capt. thru mpg

Jan 8, 2005 3:55PM PST

when i capture my videos from my minidv cam, i use pinnacle 9.. there are two ways, capturing through avi full quality or mpeg full quality.. basically, the quality of the videos are relatively the same, but avi takes up so much of the hardisk while mpeg is much much smaller... the only thing bothering me is that when i capture through mpeg, the audio doesnt syncronize with the video. am i doing something wrong here? what do i need to do? thanks...

Software encoding of mpeg files takes a fairly fast cpu.

If the cpu is not fast enough, or if the cpu is interrupted by other running tasks, it can drop frames during capture. The dropped frames are what causes the loss of synchronization.

You may need a more powerful system for video, or be sure that most normal Windows tasks are stopped before encoding begins. A good video editor should allow you to resynchronize the sound track.
