avi & mpg files in Vista

Oct 18, 2007 7:07AM PDT

As of yesterday, the video portion of avi & mpg files will only play correctly in windows-related players, such as WMP and Windows Movie Maker. They won't play in Realplayer, WinAmp, or Picasa, for example. Also, wmv files WILL play in any player. Seems like some sort of proprietary thing with Microsoft. When I try to play them in any other player, the video is garbled. Obviously, there are a lot of problems with Vista being reported, but this seems to be unique. Have they done something to all my avi & mpg files, or to all the players but WMP? Can a codec fix this, and why would it happen to all of them at once?
