AVI and mpg on media players only plays audio component

by cjhicks / January 30, 2009 5:09 PM PST

I have lost the ability to play the video component of AVI and mpg files on MS media player, real player and VLC media player. I can play commercial or home produced DVDs. I can also play both mpg and AVI through my video editor Studio 10.

This is my main machine on which I perform video editing in the winter months so I cannot pinpoint a time when the 'video stopped'

I have downloaded and removed various codec packs to no avail

I have removed VLC and Real player and reinstalled the latest MS media player with no luck. and then reinstalled VLC and Real player individually and got nowhere.

Can anyone give me any leads on how to solve this problem

Mother board: Asus M2N32-sli deluxe
Video card: ATI Radeon X1900
Windows XP at the latest levels
MS Media Player 11
Real palyer 11
VLC media player 0.9.8a

I have 2 other systems (laptop and back-up) at the same software levels and they do not exhibit this problem
