AVGIDSEH.Sys (redux post)

Jul 26, 2011 10:34PM PDT

I have written this post because I am having trouble progressing past AVGIDSEH.Sys when trying to boot my PC in safe mode. An update related to AVG corrupted my 64-bit Windows 7 boot.

The windows repair disc does not even work in this situation.

The instructions described in a previous post related to this are no sufficient enough especially seeing they were provided by a AVG employee. I am very disappointed with AVG anti-virus.

Needless to say I doubt I will be using the "free anti-virus software" again.

The thread is not written well. Could you at least name all the avg fils that one must change in case a core process needs to use it's own file that starts with the avg sequence.

AVG=frustration (If this does not work I am going to take my computer to be repaired at that my friends is the real cost of free software)

NEED HELP!
Aug 10, 2011 12:53AM PDT

I am having the same problem.
Started yesterday (Tuesday, Aug. 9, 2011).

A window popped up saying that AVG loaded new updates and needed to restart. I clicked "OK" but forgot to close I.E. and Outlook first. They were forced closed and the computer rebooted, then the problem started and it locks up at "AVGIDseh.sys" file.

I burnt the CD but couldn't understand the instructions well enough to make it work (they are too cryptic for a novice such as myself).

This happened on my laptop - Toshiba Satellite L655-S5150 running Windows 7 Home Premium. This laptop is only a few months old.

I also had the same pop-up window on my desk top but hit "control/alt/delete and opened task manager and was able to halt the AVG reboot. I then completely removed AVG (via control panel) from my system and it seems to be working, at this time.

I NEED MY LAPTOP BACK UP AND RUNNING - ASAP!!!
Please help us "novice" users understand how to fix this.

Thanks in advance,

David

Hello DRM_59,

Could you please describe the issues with booting from AVG Rescue CD in more details?
Did you change the boot settings in your BIOS? Is there any error message displayed when booting from the CD?

Inform us which part of the instructions in not clear so we can try to explain it in more details.

Thank you

When I boot using the CD, there are no options for:
"2. When the AVG Rescue CD is launched, select the Utilities -> File Manager menu item."

I let the system boot by it's self and a page comes up for "Agree to Terms", I hit ENTER and it then tries to "MOUNT".

After a screen warning of no internet connection, it runs for a minute then a Main Menu comes up and option "M" (for Mount) says "Re-mount Windows volumes."

When I hit ENTER (on "M"), a window reads "Mounting Windows Partitions"

Few minutes go by and the screen flickers then the Main Menu comes back up with the same options as before (e.g. "Scan" "Scan Result", "Update", "Database", "Vault", "Mount", "Network", "USB", "Utilities", etc...

Hello DRM_59,

we have added a screenshot to the How To Disable AVG When The Operating System Cannot Be Started Properly article to shed more light on the "select the Utilities -> File Manager menu item" step. You may display the new screenshot directly by following this link.

Is there any error message displayed when booting with AVG drivers disabled?

The described mounting difficulties indicate the file system may be damaged. I recommend running hard drive check as soon as you will be able to boot the system.

You may also run the Windows Startup Recovery as described here to fix the booting procedure.

Thank you.

Hello JiriF_AVG (et al),

Well, apparently reading comprehension owns me and I completely missed the "Utilities" commands. My apologies.

As it turns out, you were correct in your assumption that the data was/had been corrupted on my hard drive.

In my attempt(s) to fix the "AVGIDseh.sys" driver problem, the data on my lap top was corrupted and inaccessible. I'm not sure as to how this happened but none-the-less, it's gone from my hard drive and the only way I can recover it is through extremely expensive data recovery agents.

As stated earlier, my computer is only 3 months old and was working perfectly before the AVG update/reboot, and the only people to touch it (after the AVG reboot) were [two] highly qualified, professional computer experts who I paid to help resolve this issue.

Regards,

David
