mentioned situation with AVG components is related with improperly loaded virus database, which is mostly caused by these reasons:
A) Not enough operating memory during computer startup (minimal hardware requirements is 512 MB)
B) Corrupted virus database files
- you can check folder C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\AVG for "incavi.avm" file (size must be more than 90 MB)
- check your hard disk for errors (How-To article)
C) Conflict with other protection application(s)
- what other protection applications or firewall are you using?
I am having a lot of problems trying to get AVG 2011 fully functional.
I have already tried removing all AVG componanats with the removal tool, and re-installing again a couple of times, but the same problems persist - Anti-virus (VDB check has failed), Anti-Spyware (VDB check has failed) and Resident Shield remain inactive.
I try updating and scanning and of course, fix all, but I get the message 'Could not finish automatic state repair. We weren't able to fix one or more componants'. I've also recieved AvgErrorCode_0x05b4 along with the preceding text.
I have a Windows Vista Laptop and I managed to use previous AVG software and the 2011 30-Day Free Trial without any problems.
I'm not overly tech savvy, so really would appreciate any help
