AVG9 and the 100's of temp files

Oct 22, 2010 9:31PM PDT

I am running XP,sp3. This may have been covered, I can't find a search function.

I updated to AVG9 (paid version) last July. I have noticed in passing the large number of temp files created weekly, but decided today to try to find out what this version is doing. Many of the files cannot be deleted, some are in use.

I am hoping someone has an explanation. Meanwhile, I think I'll drop back a version.

AVG9 Temp Files
Feb 7, 2011 10:01PM PST

I too have this problem.

I emailed the main AVG site as a paying user several days ago but have had no reply.

The files are in c:\documents and settings\All Users\Application Data\avg9\temp

They are between 3 and 7 KB in size .

The number set up each day seems to vary .

So far I have just under 600 having installed AVG9 in September 2010.

Clearly they are not deleted by the "delete temporary update files" option in the management tools section.

My question to AVG support was "is it safe for me to manually delete say up to the last months files. AS yet no reply .

Each file seems to be a small log of AVG operations. Here is a copy of one of them from today.

Hello Releived,

you can remove them manually. Some of them will be probably locked, but after computer restart they should be removed (or at least unlocked).

These temporary files and their removal has been improved in AVG 2011. Do you want to upgrade? (FAQ)

Thank you

Thanks for the reply.

I have now manually deleted several hundred of them.

I will upgrade later in the year as my subscription has another 8 months to go.

Hello Releived,

please be informed that you can use AVG 2011 with your current license number. Paid AVG license is not bound with used product version (AVG8, AVG9 or AVG 2011) and you can upgrade to AVG 2011 without additional fees.

AVG9 license number is fully working in AVG 2011, or you can create a compatible one in AVG 2011 format through this webform.

Thank you

AVG9 and the 100's of temp files
Feb 10, 2011 1:59AM PST

I should have posted back with my solution to my problem long ago.

Pretty simple, really. I just changed to version 10.0.1204.

AVG still has a temp folder, but it's always empty when I check it.

Sorry I didn't post back last year, lol.'
