Question

AVG vs JavaScript

May 19, 2011 12:46PM PDT

After installing Avg 2011, web pages are telling me JavaScript is disabled. How do I enable it? In Intenet Options it is ticked enabled but it's obviously not.

Coincidence?
May 21, 2011 2:39AM PDT

Since installing AVG 2011 was the only change I made to my system prior to this issue, I assumed it may be blocking something I need to make Java work. I disabled AVG and it made no difference. I uninstalled all Java programs and installed their newest version with AVG and Windows Defender disabled. Although testing with Java tells me it's installed, it is not enabled. Trying to enable it from the Java control panel I find the Microsoft Internet Explorer option under Default Java for Browsers is checked but greyed out. Trying to enable from Internet Options I find Scripting of Java Applets is enabled, All Java (Sun Microsystem) items under Manage Add-Ons are enabled, and under Advanced, I find nothing relating to Java or Sun Microsystems. Once again, since Java was working fine prior to installing AVG 2011 what could be the cause this issue. Coincidence?

Hello dean22952,

Installation of AVG is not disabling any Internet Explorer features/options.
Since the issue persists with AVG fully disabled, installation of AVG and Java not working afterwards was most likely a coincidence.

Could you please try to test Java in other browsers than Internet Explorer?

Thank you

I installed Mozilla's Firefox, same result - Javascript Disabled or not working with this Browser. I tried Java's Support page but it's seems to FAQ or pay $50 for a support tech. I'm lost.

Active scripting is enabled. As for reverting done changes, AVG Tune up says my free use has been used. So I completely uninstalled Avg 2011. Web sites still did not reconize Java. Installed AVG 2011 again and tried AVG Tune Up but got the same result.

Hello dean22952,

Since the issue persists even after full uninstallation, it is most likely not related to AVG.

This forum is aimed so help users with AVG related issues.
Please try to visit some general support forum.

I have the same problem. I installed AVG 2011, and now web pages are telling me that JavaScript is disabled in Chrome, Firefox and IE, even though active scripting is enabled in all of these browsers.
