AVG updates

Mar 10, 2004 7:21AM PST

Sorry if this has been discussed before.

Has anyone an explanation for the fact the I could not download the last three AVG (free) updates from AVG control centre and had to go to their site. (Was this just a matter of them being busy?)

And: why, when I downloaded the(usually 4) items, did two of them take 12-15 mins to download when AVG normally sends short downloads, and even when they sent long ones they did not seem to take that long???

Thanks KevMo, but I would need complete step by step instructions on how to do it, as I am relatively new to computers. Where would the new download sites appear - would they show on the screen when I clicked the usual update now button?

Just looked at it and there is a dropdown thingimibob so I assume they would show on there.

Basil - yes, it will appear as you click

on the little arrow next to: "download from server" - choose the www.grisoft.com server - that's the fastest.

Basil, here's the instructions

With your browser window open to Marianna's tip, Go to My Computer>Drive "C" (or whatever letter your hard drive is labeled)>Program Files>Grisoft>AVG6. Open URL.INI, copy text, open notepad, paste text and "save as" url.old in that same AVG6 folder. Then, copy text of Marianna's tip from the open browser window, open notepad again, paste text and "save as" URL.INI. in the AVG6 folder. When it asks if you want to replace existing URL.INI, click Yes. Close everything and try updates. That was it and it's working great. Good Luck.

Thanks KevMo

I managed to work it out. I did it slightly differently. I saved the original url.ini as url.old. Went back to the original url.ini deleted the original text and pasted in the new. And all is working fine.

Thanks again for your trouble. Big kiss for Marianna.

not long after I originally wrote those directions. Then I promptly forgot it. I HATE getting old! Thanks for the reminder. I'm glad you found the easier way. Kevin

Well folks

I tried the suggestions but have a problem. The file I have already shows 3 different addys like the one posted by Marianna. I worked on this the other day so it's possible I deleted the old file. Do I need the url.old for this to work? I only have the cz site shown in the drop down box.
