AVG uninstall

Nov 27, 2004 9:41PM PST

I am trying to uninstall my AVG after having problems rceiving emails.

Went into the ADD/Remove in the control panel but it will not remove it. When I click the icon it comes up with a blue AVG installation screen which says

Installation failed
Error occurred

Installer initialization failed due to the following errors

Undefined error. Initialization of the set up date file failed

Opening of the set up date failed "C:\Program files\Grisoft\AVG free\set up dat" failed

This makes me think I have not got it on the computer but when I went into Search for AVG it brought up 92 files. Do not know what to do and I guess my computer must be unprotected. Running XP Home

Hi

I reinstalled AVG 7 and did the update and scan but when I tried to get into it again from both the short cut and programe files it comes up with

COM ERROR CAUGHT

Code Value - 80004002
code meaning - no such interface supported
description - no default language

If I use the icon in the systems tray it comes up with the control centre.

Should I do a systems restore or what

Worried

Installed it again and did an update - then when I tried to go into it again via the short cut and progams in the start menu it tells me that

Could not initialize language support interface
Application cannot run.

Should I do a systems restore ?

What I want to do is get it off my computer altogether but as you can see I am getting myself in a mess.

I apologise if you get this twice but it is now stopping me sending emails on Incredimail and outlook express. I really would like to take it off my computer.

I've found spyware or a trojan to be at the root of such complaints. AVG has a control panel that you can uncheck the email scanning if you think that is messing up the email.

As to getting the right language, your post seemed to have other spelling variations than US English. You may have to help people understand what language OS you have.

HI

I am English so there is no problem there.. What I need to know is how to get into Grisoft to check what language it it using. Actually what I really want is to get the thing off my computer altogether. When I first put it on I did go in and disable the email checker - but after a few emails it stopped them again. I really am in a mess over this especially as I don't know if I am covered or not. The email scanner comes up when I go into Incredimail so that must be working. I really need step by step help to remove the thing altogether it really is making me ill. Will leave it for tonight.

Many thanks for your help.

Here's the post with a little non-US English.

" from both the short cut and programe files it comes up with "

You may have the British XP? You didn't tell. I may be too subtle about this but let me ask it again.

In closing, since you disabled the email scan, my bet is that its not AVG at issue and you should...

1. Find and use IEFIX.
2. Perform an online virus scan with HOUSECALL.

Thank you Bob I have read all the threads but am no further on.

I finally did a systems restore back to early November to AVG 6 but I am still getting the following.
When I switch on my computer at Start Up I get a box saying
AVG CONTROL CENTER
Language file failed.
When I go into the Control Panel into Add /remove and try to remove it - it comes up with Cannot init language file
If I go into AVG under programmes both for the control center and Uninstall AVG it says cannot init language file or language file failed. I caannot get past thi language file failed bit.
Perhaps I will have to get someone in to see if they can solve it for me - as I said I am not computer literate and it is reallty getting me down especially as I am unprotected.

Hi Bob

Donwloaded Starter but to be honest did not understand it.

Problem now solved. Installed AVG 7 which allowed me to uninstall AVG 6 and then uninstalled AVG 7. Have now installed Norton. Very many thaks for everyones help and especially Bob for his patience - the mind is not as sharp as it was when you are in your 70's.

Grateful.
