** AVG 2012 installation (re-installation) **

With the recent AVG 2012 product line release, most of the technical questions posted on AVG Forums and social media are related to AVG 2012 installation. The obvious way how to install AVG 2012 is to download the installation package (free, paid for), run it and follow the wizard. However, the process may not be absolutely trouble-free in all cases.
Should you face any challenge while installing AVG 2012, please follow one of these articles:
How to (re)install AVG 2012 Free Edition

- AVG Remover used in the process will make sure any AVG remnants are completely uninstalled before installing AVG 2012.
In case of any installation issues, please do not hesitate contacting AVG technical support.

** LinkScanner verdict icons missing in Internet Explorer 7 **

You may note the AVG 2012 LinkScanner verdict icons are missing on Google search results when using Internet Explorer 7. This issue was passed to developers for investigation.
We recommend installing the most recent version of Internet Explorer available (IE8 for Windows XP systems, IE9 for Windows Vista and newer systems, at the moment) to rectify this issue. You may do so using the Windows Update. In case AVG LinkScanner verdict icons are still missing, please make sure to enable 3rd party browser extensions in your Internet Explorer configuration as follows:
- Press the Windows logo key and R simultaneously.
- Type inetcpl.cpl and press Enter.
- Click the Advanced tab.
- Find the Enable third-party browser extensions* option and make sure it is enabled (screenshot).
- Click OK to save any changes.
- Restart your browser.

** AVG Gadget not installed **

We noticed several queries regarding AVG Gadget additional installation (available on Windows Vista and Windows 7 systems only). When the AVG Gadget is not installed, it is not possible to add this component by running the Repair installation or using the Add or remove components installation option. In case you have previously installed AVG without AVG Gadget and decided you would like to use this feature, please proceed as follows:
- Download the most recent AVG installation package (AVG Free Edition, AVG commercial versions).
- Run the downloaded installer.
- Follow the wizard and choose to uninstall AVG.
- Restart the computer.
- Run the downloaded installation package once again.
- Follow the wizard to install AVG. Make sure to choose the AVG Gadget to be installed.
- Restart the computer after the installation is finished.

** AVG Outlook plugin used with an IMAP mailbox connected **

You may face certain slowdown when an IMAP mailbox is connected to your MS Outlook client and AVG MS Outlook plugin is installed. This is caused by MS Outlook updating messages stored on remote server with a new header (which includes information about the messages were scanned by an antivirus). This usually means no inconvenience as e-mail messages are quite small comparing to average Internet connection speed. The slowdown may be noticeable on dial-up connection or with large amount of e-mails stored in your mailbox. The situation is described in details in this AVG Forums thread.
If you wish to avoid such slowdown completely, you may replace the MS Outlook plugin with Personal e-mail scanner plugin. Please consult this FAQ article for more information on E-mail scanner plugins and their un/installation.

** AVG Thunderbird e-mail scanner plugin incompatible with Thunderbird 6 **

AVG 2012 E-mail scanner newly features the Thunderbird plugin. Unfortunately, the plugin is not compatible with the most recent Mozilla Thunderbird version. Several users already asked for adding support for the current and upcoming Mozilla Thunderbird versions. This fix will be released in one of the upcoming AVG program updates. The issue is being discussed in this AVG Forums thread.
