AVG TOP 5 weekly issues - March 23, 2012

** AVG LinkScanner incompatible with Mozilla Firefox 11 **

A few AVG Forums visitors noticed that the AVG Safe Search add-on is not compatible with the most recent Mozilla Firefox 11 version. We would like to inform you that the Mozilla Firefox 11 support will be available with the following cumulative program update. Please accept our apology for any inconvenience the incompatibility could have caused to you.

** PC Tuneup license **

A couple of new AVG PC Tuneup users reported the AVG PC Tuneup application does not accept their unique license number. It seems that proper license numbers are being used. The situation has been passed to product specialist for thorough investigation. Unfortunately, there is no available work-around at the moment of writing this article.
Should you face a similar problem, please do not hesitate contacting AVG Technical support for assistance.

** Rogue AVG websites **

We have been notified about certain websites offering a rogue AVG free version for download in the past week. All known variants of the rogue anti-virus program are detected by AVG at the moment.
When downloading AVG applications, we strongly recommend doing so from official websites: www.avg.com/download or free.avg.com/download
If you find a suspicious application or file undetected by AVG, feel free to send it to our virus analysts as described in this AVG Forums post.

Operating system crashed?

Forum visitors sometimes report a system crash, also known as the Blue Screen of Death (abbreviated as BSOD). To be able to analyze such crash, AVG support technicians need detailed diagnostic data from the affected system. However, this could prove to be a difficult task if the system is crashing repeatedly during the boot process. In such case, we recommend disabling AVG completely as described in this forum post to rule out the AVG program being responsible for the system trouble.
If the issue is rectified after disabling AVG, please contact AVG technical support or describe the issue in details in AVG Forums for further analysis. Memory crash dump files will be analyzed in order to find the culprit of the situation.
If the system is still crashing even after AVG is completely disabled, the issue is apparently not caused by AVG software. We recommend contacting your local computer repair shop in order to rectify the situation. The BSOD is often caused by a malfunctioning hardware or conflicting software drivers. More information about the BSOD can be found in Wikipedia, if interested.
