AVG TOP 5 weekly issues - August 19, 2011

** Safe Search extension is not compatible with Firefox 6.0 **

Mozilla has released their new Firefox 6.0 browser for public. Unfortunately, the AVG Safe Search extension is not compatible with this browser version yet (example screenshot). We found some glitches during our internal testing and developers are working on rectifying them. A new AVG program update will be released as soon the support is fully implemented. You may also notice some other Firefox extensions are not compatible as the Firefox development cycle is quite rapid.
Please rest assured you are still protected by AVG even if you have already upgraded to Firefox 6.0. The AVG Active Surf Shield component is still checking all data and will prevent you from accessing malicious content even though search results verdict icons are not available temporarily.

** Scanning registry entries may cause higher CPU load **

AVG forum visitor reported unusual CPU load. The situation was rectified after disabling AVG resident protection. Our developers analyzed the situation and identified a likely culprit. A suitable fix has been implemented in the upcoming AVG 2012 version. In case you feel that your system may be affected by this issue, please join the Beta program and check the situation with AVG 2012 beta.
Kindly contact AVG technical support for further assistance in case the system seems to be slowed down by AVG.

** AVG Threat Report **

AVG Threat report is one of recently implemented AVG features. User is presented with brief overview of AVG protective actions every 30 days on a special web page. This feature may be disabled or enabled as follows:
- Open the AVG user interface and press F8.
- Select the Appearance item in the left list.
- Enable or disable the Display statistical notification option depending on your preferences.
- Click the OK button to save any configuration changes.
As many users requested the report to be available on demand (not only every 30 days), we decided to include this option in the upcoming AVG 2012 version. In case you have AVG 2012 beta version installed already, you may access this statistical information as follows:
- Open the AVG 2012 user interface.
- Click the Anti-Virus component.
- Click the View and online report for how AVG has protected you link.
- AVG Threat Report page will be displayed in your browser.

** AVG Gadget not installed **

We noticed several queries regarding AVG Gadget additional installation (available on Windows Vista and Windows 7 systems only). When the AVG Gadget is not installed, it is not possible to add this component by running the Repair installation or using the Add or remove components installation option. In case you have previously installed AVG without AVG Gadget and decided you would like to use this feature, please proceed as follows:
- Download the most recent AVG installation package (AVG Free Edition, AVG commercial versions).
- Run the downloaded installer.
- Follow the wizard and choose to uninstall AVG.
- Restart the computer.
- Run the downloaded installation package once again.
- Follow the wizard to install AVG. Make sure to choose the AVG Gadget to be installed.
- Restart the computer after the installation is finished.

** AVG 2012 beta version is still available for testing **

We would like to invite you to AVG 2012 beta testing. In case you would like to cooperate on with us, kindly join AVG beta program. Please bear in mind that even though it has been basically tested, AVG 2012 beta version is not a final product yet, so some features may not be fully functional and the application may exhibit unexpected behavior.
In case you would encounter any bugs, please report them using the Beta web portal.
