AVG TOP 5 weekly issues - August 15, 2011

Aug 18, 2011 11:52PM PDT
** System boot process hangs on loading the AVGIDSEH.SYS driver **

A few AVG users suspected the AVGIDSEH.SYS driver is causing system boot freeze because this driver is listed as the last one loaded during the initial boot phase. The so far performed analysis suggested the issue is not caused by AVG in all cases. Brief overview of our findings can be found for example in this AVG Free Forum post.
To be able to investigate the issue thoroughly and to make sure AVGIDSEH.SYS is not involved indeed, our developers requested full memory dump. Short guide on how to create such dump is available on AVG Free Forum. In case of any related questions, please contact AVG technical support.
A recent example of this situation can be found in this AVG Free Forum thread.

** AVG Identity Protection false alarm **

AVG Free forum visitors reported suspected Identity Protection false alarm. Previously, regular scan or Resident Shield false alarms were mentioned in these AVG feedback updates. As the Identity Protection component is detecting threats based on their behavior monitoring, the false alarm investigation is not as straightforward comparing to the signature-based detection. Detailed information on how to report such false positive detection suspects is described in this AVG Free forum article (Identity Protection False Positives).
Should you face any challenge while following the described procedure, please do not hesitate contacting AVG technical support for assistance.

** Multiple resident security applications installed **

Several users noticed lower system performance. Brief analysis of the provided system overview revealed, there are multiple resident (continuously running in background) security applications. Having more resident security applications installed may result in performance and system issues. In some cases, such configuration may prevent proper infection removal. We recommend using only one resident protection software at a time.
In case you would like to install additional security scanner, please make sure to install them in on-demand mode only (scan can be launched manually from time to time).

** AVG Exchange Extension add-in cannot be loaded **

Free forum visitors reported AVG 9.0 Exchange Extension add-in could not be loaded when starting Microsoft Outlook. In case you have met similar issue, please use one of these service utilities to rectify the situation (according to the AVG version installed):
AVG 9.0
AVG 2011
Should the issue persist, please contact AVG technical support for assistance.

** AVG Rescue CD scanning **

In previous updates, we recommended running AVG Rescue CD scan when removing certain threats. Hard to remove threats can be usually easily detected by updated AVG Rescue CD. Although a link to basic information about Rescue CD was provided, its exact usage may not be described well in details. Please find more detailed information on this web page, if required. Detailed video tutorial on how to scan using AVG Rescue CD can be found here.
