How can I remove all avg programs, folders and files from windows xp?? when I try deleting them seperately I get a error message, disk may be full or write protected. Also my firewall is unaccessable and I get a message that tells me to start security center which I don't know how to do.My computer is a five year old e-machines that I shared with a frind up untill recently, should I just give up on fixing these problems and restore the thing with the cd that came with it??

Ever heard of uninstall?

You can't just delete folders from a working program, as you're finding out. You have to uninstall the program from Control Panel, Add/Remove . . . From Control Panel click on the Windows Firewall icon.

duh, thats the first thing i did after using the avg uninstall, that didn't work due to write protection or a full disk, lol, I'm convinced that these so called free security programs are desinged to do this to our computers so we have to purchase the thing in order for it to work right for any length of time. I wouldn't be shocked to find out they invented viruses and addware and all the other junk that gives us problems just so they could sell their expensive software that is supposed to keep us up and running. lol...anyway thanks for your input.

If your AVG application includes

the firewall, then you need to stop its background processes before it will uninstall completely. I would use the AVG Remover Tool. You don't say which version of XP you are using, and whether it is 32 bit or 64 bit, but I suspect it is 32 bit, so you would need the AVGRemover(32bit) (avgremover.exe) download.

You don't say why you want to remove AVG, so I assume you have a replacement in mind that includes anti-virus and a firewall.

In conflict?
Feb 13, 2009 7:33PM PST

Not sure what you mean there.

You say AVG is in conflict with AVG addware and spyware. I am not sure what AVG addware and spyware is, but also, I am surprised that one AVG product is in conflict with another AVG product.

I ran into THIS issue.
Feb 13, 2009 10:27PM PST

I had an old machine with the old version of AVG Antispyware and it took just a little more work to uninstall that and then after all the AVG items were gone I was able to download and install AVG's latest and no more issues.
