It turned out that the fix is simple, but not intuitive. I went into AVG Free>Overview>Link Scanner, and Deselected the Link Scanner options Search Shield and Surf Shield, then restarted Firefox. The old disabled plug-in was gone, and the latest version 12.0.0.1912 was installed and activated. Then I reselected the two Link Scanner components, above, and voila - fixed!

Greetings:
I upgraded two laptops running Win 7 HP from Firefox Ver 9 to 10.0.1. On one laptop, AVG Safe Search 12.0.0.1912 was installed as a plugin to Firefox when I installed AVG Free, and the upgrade went smoothly.
However, on the other laptop, Firefox had Safe Search 12.0.0.1894 installed as a plugin, and when I upgraded Firefox to 10.0.1, Safe Search was Disabled as incompatible with Firefox 10.0.1.
There is no delete button on the disabled Safe search 12.0.0.1894 Firefox plugin, and no way to update it to the compatible 12.0.0.1912 that I can see.
How can I either delete the incompatible Safe Search plugin and reinstall the compatible one, or update the incompatible plugin to the compatible version? The incomprehensible AVG website gives no clue as to how to get this done.
If I have to remove AVG to get rid of the offending Firefox plugin, I'll just leave it removed - no software should be so hard to manage.
Thanks for whatever advice you can give!
