avg restart computer

Hi,

About a year ago I have installed avg free edition... and currently I have 8.0.136 .

During the last two weeks I get a warning... restart your
computer.

My question is: what can I do in order to get rid of that
warning.

I am using win xp.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Just one thing. Did you restart?

In reply to: avg restart computer

If you did and it does it again, there is/was a discussion about this in our Spyware forum and the fix appears to be to download the new version, disconnect from the internet while you uninstall the installed version then run the new version you just downloaded.

newest version of avg

In reply to: Just one thing. Did you restart?

Bob, thanks.

At the first week when it asked me to restart... I restarted.
At the second week I stopped to restart.
I am using the newest free version of avg.

I downloaded the newest version when it came out some months
ago.

I'll be happy if you can tell me what to do when I have the
newest version installed. Thank you in advance for your answer.

Read his answer again ...

In reply to: newest version of avg

it tells you that the cure seems to be to uninstall what is installed and re-install. (sometimes an installation "goes wrong" because some temp files don't get deleted or various other reasons - uninstalling then rebooting and re-installing often takes care of the problem)

You need to re-read those instructions...

Answer to glenn30 and Edward ODaniel

In reply to: You need to re-read those instructions...

Thank you to both of them for your answers.

I agree with both of them... I haven't read your answers
as I should...

I just now understand that I should have read your msgs in this way:

... please first download the most recent version of avg...
... and when you downloaded... please uninstall what is installed...
... restart your computer... and install the most recent version of avg :)...

Thank you guys for your patience you took to explain me what I should do... and thank you also for sharing with me your knowledge...

Fine by me.

As long as we "get it done" I'm fine with this. I think all contributors helped get this wagon out of the ditch and back on the road. Thanks to all.

N/P... do not worry...

In reply to: When I wrote "Thank you for"... :)

It was obvious to me you were not using the latest version (8.0.138) that had the fix.

Glad the issue is fixed... last night I installed AVG 8.0.138. Looks good and I like the interface. My first scan time was 38 minutes which is about the same as the old version. Happy

Thanks for the further info...

In reply to: N/P... do not worry...

Glenn, with this new version it takes an average 3 and half hour to scan.

Is this ok? With the old version it took about 40 minutes...

Cannot give you a good answer...

In reply to: Thanks for the further info...

I have seen complaints from others about taking a long time for scan to complete. That has not happened in my case. Maybe it is related to the size and number of files on the hard drive to be scanned.

I am seeing no real difference in the time of the old version and AVG 8... so I have no good answer. Did you accept the AVG Toolbar when the software was installed? I did at first but didn't like the extra space taken on the screen... so uninstalled AVG 8 and reinstalled without the toolbar. Don't know if this makes a difference... just passing it along.

Maybe there is a logical answer and someone will reply.
