I installed AVG when MSE turned itself off one day even though MS was great at helping me through email. I just didn't like the thought of an AV turning off on me. Been running AVG for a month now but in the last 2 weeks I have had 3 alerts and all 3 are suspected false positives. I have scanned the suspected files through http://virusscan.jotti.org/en and http://www.virustotal.com/ and the results are at the end of this post. I don't understand how one can say AVG detected it and the other says AVG says it is clean. Why is this happening just lately? What is up with AVG (free)? How do I know if this is a false positive or not? The file in question today is a game I paid for and downloaded from Steam (Portal 2).
Reading this seems that it is a known issue that AVG now is known for these false positives:
