Question

AVG Preventing Windows 7 from Booting Properly

Jun 26, 2011 4:56AM PDT

Okay, so I know this is a common problem and I think I know how to solve it. The only problem is that I cannot do certain things and I may need more step-by-step help than other computer users.
The problem is supposedly caused by a bad AVG update. What is happennig is that when I try to boot using windows 7 on my Asus G1 laptop, it will not boot. I have tried opening in Safe Mode and it hangs on something called AVGIDSEH.sys. Most users have said to run the rescue cd, open command prompt, and to rename these files into a .bak format. This has not worked for me. I tried burning the bootable recovery disk using the cyberlink dvd suite deluxe on an hp computer. I have burned multiple disks according to the instructions on the program's website and none of them would boot onto my computer. I have been using the ISO file provided by AVG as the bootable image file and also tried using the contents of the unzipped folder as the contents of the bootable cd. My computer does not recognize this, even when I enter the BIOS and change the cd/dvd drive to the top booting priority. I guess my question is: am I not burning the cd right or is there something else I will have to do in order to open command prompt and rename these files. This has been going on for the past couple of days and I am almost at my wit's end. Any contributions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Also, here is a link to the instructions I have been using to burn the bootable disk. Details on burning bootable cd are on page 19.
http://download.cyberlink.com/ftpdload/user_guide/CDS/5/CDS_enu.pdf
I have been dragging the ISO file in the burn section and then selecting the ISO also as the bootable image file.
Is there a better way to make this cd so my computer will actually recognize it???

Hello vgreen89,

Please check this post and this thread about this issue.

You could try to create rescue CD on USB drive or use different software to burn the iso file.
It is also possible to use any other linux live distribution to delete/rename AVG drivers.

Thank you
