AVG Not Updating

Installed latest version of the free version of AVG 8.0 and the install went fine. Tried to run an update to get the latest updates and get an error message "No connection to download server". I checked my firewall and AVG is allowed. Also turned off the firewall completely and still can not update. Restarted the computer, same error message. I checked previous posting and tried all suggestions.

Anything else to try?

a "restart" needed to update...this just started today..I did restart but every time I start up from stand by and click the icon which is grey in tray with red exclamation..it says update mgr needs restart...is something going on ??????

I received the same message. But when I tried later in the day I was able to get the update. And if I recall correctly a restart was necessary. And if I didn't restart the AVG Icon in the tray was covered or X'd out.
