AVG Internet Security 9.0?

by msoucy / March 3, 2010 1:21 PM PST

I'm looking to replace my current virus scan program. I'm currently running Microsoft Live OneCare. It appears Microsoft no longer makes it, and is replacing it soon. I have been looking at AVG Internet Security 9.0 as a replacement. It seesm to have gotten good reviews on NEWEGG.COM. Anything I should be aware about this product? My OS is Windows XP if that matters at all.

Other than less than 90% of protection by AVG

and an unnecessary toolbar, you might consider using other security suite software if purchasing is not a problem.

You can try though the trial of AVG IS 9, if you like.

Other suites that I can suggest trying is:
ESET Smart Security
F-Secure Internert Security
Kaspersky Internet Security

One Care Has Been Replaced
by tobeach / March 3, 2010 1:31 PM PST

(about 6 months ago?)by new free tool from MS called MS Security Essentials available from their site. They still update Windows defender also.

Used to be a big AVG fan, but they lost me. Later versions, being more extensive & complex, seem subject to more false positives & glitches than I recall from v. 6 to 8. For XP SP2/3/Vista/Win7 only.
Others include free versions of Avira AntiVir & Avast for Home also for above OS's only. May have versions for linux but not positive on that.
Good Luck! Happy
