AVG Free vs BitDefender Free?

by hermes_vb / October 19, 2006 5:38 AM PDT

I currently use AVG but recently discovered BitDefender has a free version. I have heard so much about how great BD is that I started to wonder if I should switch. What do you think?

Paid version of Bitdefender offers Real-Time Protection.

I started with the free version and liked it so much, I decided to go with the paid version, which offers real-time protection---it even scans web (HTTP) traffic while you surf the internet. Like AVG, Bitdefender also scans inbound and outbound email for viruses, but it does not add a certification statement to the emails like AVG does when they are found virus-free. Included with Bitdefender is Behavioral Antispyware which offers registry and dial control, both of which I don't find particulary very useful, as I have other applications to monitor the registry and have high speed cable, so dial (modem) control does not affect me.
