Refer to my post here-above re disappearance of AVG.
I wish to make the following correction:
A new subdirectory under C:/Prograns has been created with the installation of AVG Free 9.0 but the old subdirectoty for AVG Free Editon was left intact but empty.
I located AVG Free 9.0 in this new directory and was able to start the User Interface from there and do an update after which the AVG icon re-appeared in the system tray.
So, I remain faithfull and thankfull to AVG !!
AVG Free Edition 9.0 disappeared from my computer after 5 months of stable performance. Every trace of AVG disappeared from my computer (running on XP) apart from the subdirectory named AVG FREE EDITION under Programs on drive C: - which now shows as "Empty".
I have been using AVG for many years and never experienced any problems. All of a sudden I am uncertain about the product, especially after reading of similar problems experienced by others.
Is the Free Edition reliable or simply a way to draw potential customers for the other versions?
