avg free edition

does this run all the time or just when i run it am wondering about taking it out of my startup file and off my taskbar

Open AVG,click on scheduler.Highlight the one you want,then click edit schedule.

not a good idea to remove it from your start up folder.

while it serves to scan your incoming and outgoing email to uncheck it from start up means it will not run except on demand.

this means you will have to enable it every time you d/l your email from the server.

I do not believe it is a resource hog and as such would not reccommend your doing so.

the resident scanner to remain active as well as having the Right Click on mouse option "Scan w/ AVG" (for single files) instantly available.
I would only remove from start if it's not to be your main resident scanner so as to avoid conflicts with another.
Although larger than old version 6, the 7 is still quite a small footprint and uses much less resources than Norton or several others. Worked on toughest Eicar Test Virus (Eicar 3: Double Zipped !). Happy

may be more of a resource hog than earlier versions, since I see 4 items running in Task manager.
However, it has saved me a couple of times, from having to clean out a virus/worm, so think it is well worth the "overhead".
Do yourself a favor, and leave it running all the time.
